Birkenstock Launches Its First Ever Skincare Line

Birkenstock (yes, that Birkenstock ) has launched a skincare line centered around cork oak extract, the same material used in the insoles of their famous slides. First launched in Europe last year, Birkenstock Natural Skincare may seem like an odd venture, but in reality, makes total sense for the brand. Besides padding orthopedic footbeds, cork oak extract—and more specifically suberin, a molecule in the cork—works as a hero skincare ingredient to improve elasticity, boost moisture, and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Complexion enthusiasts will also be pleased with the range—the full collection features a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, exfoliator, eye cream, and more—all tapping suberin. And of course, there are lots of other efficacious botanical extracts in there too, including but not limited to: arctic moss, aloe vera, argan oil, avocado, baobab, calendula, cranberry, ginkgo, green coffee, moringa, ginger, jojoba, macadamia, mint, elderberry, grape and hyaluron. Chicken Biryani

Increase heat to medium-high and sprinkle sugar over remaining ghee in pot. Cook, stirring frequently, until sugar forms deeply caramelized clumps, 3–5 minutes. Add chicken, scraping in marinade, and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and arrange chicken and marinade in an even layer. Sprinkle with dried fruit and one-third of fried onions. Top with rice. Poke 5–7 holes into rice with the back of a wooden spoon until you reach the chicken. Drizzle reserved ghee over and top with another third of fried onions. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and return to medium heat. Cook until you can hear the chicken gurgling in the pot and wisps of steam just begin to escape from lid, about 5 minutes. Do not open the lid at any point! If you peek, you will risk losing too much steam, preventing the rice from properly cooking through. Transfer pot to oven and bake, covered, 45 minutes. Let rest at least 15 minutes and up to 1 hour before uncovering.

The FTC Banned Sunday Riley From Leaving Fake Reviews

Astrid Stawiarz Getty Images Some beauty drama and this time, it doesn't involve YouTube's top beauty gurus : Cult-favorite skincare brand Sunday Riley, the one behind the popular Good Genes serum, has officially settle charges with the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) stemming from allegations made last year that the skincare brand posted glowing product reviews on Sephora's website to boost sales. According to the complaint filed by the FTC, "On multiple occasions between November 2015 and August 2017, Sunday Riley Skincare managers, including Respondent Sunday Riley, posted reviews of Sunday Riley brand cosmetic products on the Sephora website using fake accounts created just for that purpose or requested that other employees do so." The FTC charged the brand and the CEO and founder of the same name with two violations: False or misleading endorsement claims and deceptive failure to disclose material connections with endorsers. Shrimp & Linguine with Piccata Compound Butter

In a large Dutch oven, melt the 2 Tbsp of salted butter on medium-low heat. Add garlic and sauté until just fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the white wine, red pepper flakes, and several cracks of black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until wine is reduced by half, 2-3 minutes.

Frisée Salad With Bacon Vinaigrette

Heat 3 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil in a medium skillet over medium until shimmering. Add torn bread and stir well to evenly coat in oil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crisp in some areas, 4–5 minutes. You aren’t looking for croutons that are crisp all the way through—just some good browning on the outside. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper and transfer to a plate. Let cool; reserve skillet.

Doughnut Bread Pudding

Vigorously whisk eggs, egg yolks, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla, salt, and lemon zest in a large bowl until light, uniform, and foamy. (You can also process in a blender until combined if you want.) Add doughnuts to bowl with custard. Gently toss and push down on them so that they absorb maximum liquid without falling apart. Let sit 5 minutes, then toss and press gently again. Repeat tossing and soaking twice more for a total soak time of 15 minutes, allowing the doughnuts to fully drink up the custard.

Arepas With Black Beans and Avocado

While arepas bake, wipe out skillet, then pour in remaining 1 Tbsp. oil and heat over medium. Add chili powder and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 20 seconds. Add beans and cook, stirring frequently, until warmed through, 3–4 minutes. Add reserved chopped chile and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 more minute. Remove from heat and add remaining ½ cup cilantro. Season with salt.

Cornbread Stuffing Fried Rice

Heat 1 Tbsp. ghee in skillet. Cook ginger, garlic, and 4 scallions, stirring, until softened, about 1 minute. Add eggs and cook, stirring often, until mostly set, about 30 seconds. Add rice and toss to combine. Add remaining ghee along edge of skillet so it runs down between rice and skillet. Cook, without disturbing, until rice is crackling and has formed a crisp layer against bottom of skillet, about 2 minutes. Toss, breaking up any clumps with a spoon, and continue to cook until rice is hot and crispy-chewy, about 3 minutes longer. Add stuffing and brussels sprouts back to pan and toss to combine; season with soy sauce or salt.

Cornbread Stuffing

Reduce heat to medium and melt butter in same skillet. Add onions and celery; season with salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened but not browned, 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and chiles. Cook, stirring once, until very fragrant, about 1 minute. Add corn nuts and cook, stirring often, until very fragrant and vegetables are starting to brown around the edges, about 3 minutes. Add wine and cook, stirring occasionally, until almost completely evaporated, about 3 minutes. Add sage and thyme and toss to combine. Remove from heat.
