Where there's smoke, there's five hundred products and never enough makeup remover. That's how it usually goes with DIY smokey eyes, anyway.
Backstage at Altuzarra, makeup artist Tom Pecheux did some rehab on that sentiment with a runway-worthy eye look...and just one product.
It's M.A.C Eye Kohl in Smolder, a charcoal grey with a tiny bit of sheen. "You do not need a ton of it either," Pecheux explained, "because it spreads so easily." To get the look, "You want to lightly trace the top and bottom lash lines with the pencil. Then spread the kohl out so it wraps around the whole eye" using a small shadow brush.
Repeat as necessary until you get the desired effect, which should be transparent towards the edges and darker at the waterlines. The whole thing requires some solid concentration... and maybe five minutes of your time.
Overachievers and those with very pale or sparse lashes can opt to line the absolute edge of the top lid, and the gaps between bottom lashes, with a super-thin black eyeliner.
Or you can just, you know, look great and leave the house with extra time for coffee. Your call.
