In 1994, M.A.C Cosmetics embarked on a mission to use makeup to fight against HIV and AIDS by launching its first-ever Viva Glam lipstick campaign with the legendary RuPaul as its face. Now, 25 years later, the beauty giant's continued efforts to raise money for those suffering from the disease haven't wavered, donating every single cent of Viva Glam sales to the M.A.C AIDS Fund.
What better way to celebrate Viva Glam's 25th anniversary than with a recreation of M.A.C's iconic, inaugural campaign?
M.A.C recruited supermodel Winnie Harlow to front the 25th anniversary campaign using her Halloween 2018 tribute to RuPaul. She not only recreated the famous drag queen's all-red leather ensemble worn in the 1994 campaign, but also copied the exact poses, hair, and makeup.
Harlow joins Viva Glam alumnas K.D Lang, Chloë Sevigny, Dita Von Teese, and Sia. Since its inception, M.A.C has donated over $500 million towards the global fight against HIV/AIDS to several organizations around the world, including God’s Love We Deliver, Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Open Hand/Atlanta, Inc, and more.
