Mindy Kaling Just Went Platinum at the Met Gala

For the 2019 Met Gala, Mindy went there. She walked the red pink carpet in newly long, platinum hair. This change happened for the event, specifically—she was photographed as recently as May 4 wearing her usual dark black, shoulder-length hair.

Even though it's likely a wig, we have never seen Kaling undergo such a drastic hair transformation.

The 2019 Met Gala Celebrating Camp: Notes on Fashion - Arrivals

It definitely matches her metallic, long gown for an all-over "golden goddess" effect. The rest of her look is pared-down with perfected, filter-like bronze skin, rose-nude lips, and thick black, spidery lashes. Makeup artist Janice Kinjo, using Burt's Bees, also applied a little frosting on the inner corners of her to add even more of an ethereal effect.

Come to think of it, the gold is kind of reminiscent of the golden gown her character wore to the Met Gala heist during Ocean's 8. No platinum hair here, though—IRL, Mindy is clearly more daring.

To prep for this year's Met Gala, Kaling got a facial with celeb-favorite esthetician Joanna Vargas and used her Bright Eye Firming Mask. "Pre-Met Eye Depuffer!" Kaling wrote on Instagram Stories.

Last year, Kaling definitely dressed for the theme, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" by wearing a crown atop a low chignon. Aside from the crown, we have to admit she kept it pretty safe as far as hair and makeup goes. Glad we're seeing her step out of her comfort zone for 2019!

Everything You've Ever Wanted to Know About Microneedling

For those looking to improve the look of scars, boost collagen, or encourage hair growth, microneedling can offer a minimally invasive solution. The practice dates back to 1995, but has gained significant traction in recent years thanks to new technology—and YouTube and Instagram, where the mesmerizing (albeit bloody) process stars in tens of thousands of videos. Here, dermatologist Macrene Alexiades , MD, PhD, who has published extensive research on microneedling, along with fellow Yale clinical professor and dermatologist Mona Gohara , MD demystify the multi-purpose treatment. Microneedling creates microscopic punctures in the skin. Simply put, microneedling is the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purposes of rejuvenation, explains Macrene.
